Pharmacy Practice Residency Program at Hines VA Hospital

Welcome! Thank you for your interest in the Hines Pharmacy Practice Residency Program.

Photo of Chicago skylineEdward Hines Jr., Hospital, located 12 miles west of downtown Chicago, is minutes away from entertainment, culture, and diversity. Hines currently operates 621 beds, including 203 acute care beds and 210 nursing home beds. In addition to offering primary, extended, and specialty care, Hines operates community based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) in Oak Park, Manteno, Elgin, Aurora, LaSalle/Peru, Joliet, and Oak Lawn. Hines is institutionally affiliated with Loyola University of Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine, and programmatically affiliated with the University of Illinois College of Medicine-Chicago, and the Chicago Medical School.

By combining cutting edge technology with comprehensive clinical services, Hines Department of Pharmacy continuously seeks new ways of improving patient care. Clinical services are provided in the following areas: Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Infectious Diseases, Hematology/Oncology, Geriatrics, Renal, Diabetes/Endocrinology, Pain Management, Anticoagulation, Nutrition Support, Home Based Health Care, and Drug Information. Examples of clinical services include pharmacokinetic monitoring, drug utilization evaluations, advising on appropriate drug use, and overall monitoring to provide optimal patient care.

Hines Pharmacy Practice Residency is ASHP accredited and was established in 1999. While the residency program requires core pharmacy practice components, it also allows for flexibility in order for the resident to gear the program toward his/her interests. The resident will be working with pharmacists both within the outpatient and inpatient pharmacies as well as in clinics and on the hospital floors. By combining direct clinical services with staffing responsibilities, the resident will experience a more complete picture of pharmacy practice.

As you explore this website, we hope you find that this residency program will provide you with a comprehensive, well-rounded experience that will build a solid foundation for the future.
