Dear Applicant:

Thank you for requesting information about the Hines Dietetic Internship Program. Please review the enclosed application materials carefully. They explain our application procedures and provide general information about the internship at VA Hines Hospital.

Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital is one of the largest VA Medical facilities in the country. It is a large teaching institution that has received national recognition for many areas of medical care. Within this environment and under the guidance of registered dietitians, dietetic interns will apply concepts from academia, enhancing their knowledge base and competency in clinical nutrition, food service, administration, and community nutrition.

As a dietetic intern at Hines, you will acquire the skills necessary to pursue a variety of career opportunities in Dietetics. Our program is a very comprehensive one in which dietetic interns are actively involved in all aspects of our Nutrition and Food Service.

In addition to Clinical, Food Service Management (FSM), and Community Nutrition rotations, your learning experiences will be enhanced by weekly classes. Two graduate courses offered through the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) are incorporated into the curriculum.

Many of our graduates have completed advanced degrees and are employed in prestigious positions. Many are or have been very active in the American Dietetic Association, holding offices in high positions including President. We are extremely proud of our graduates! We also have an excellent pass rate on the registration examination administered by the Commission of Dietetic Registration.

If you have any questions regarding the enclosed materials, phone Sharon Foley at (708) 202-2343 or send an e-mail to sharon.foley@va.gov. Application materials should be submitted on or before February 15, 2008 for an April internship appointment. The Hines Dietetic Internship Program begins in August and ends in May.

We look forward to receiving your application.

Sincerely,

Sharon P. Foley, MS, RD, LDN
Director, Dietetic Internship
