Mental Health Intake Center

Provides an initial in-depth assessment for the veteran referred for mental health outpatient services by a provider outside the mental health service line. The veteran receives a comprehensive evaluation by a clinician and psychiatrist. Immediate treatment needs are addressed and the veteran will be enrolled in the appropriate treatment programs. The Intake Center also functions as an adjunct to the emergency department by providing initial assessment and evaluation of patients with psychiatric and substance abuse issues. Immediate patient needs are addressed and patients are referred to the appropriate level of care or to the appropriate service.

Opiate Substitution Clinic (OSC) /1st Floor

For the opiate dependent poly substance abuse veterans. Treatment is with the aid of methadone or opiate substitution agent. The veterans receive medical management, counseling, education and supportive services.

Smoking Cessation Clinic / 1st Floor

The program utilizes the use of a prescribed nicotine patch as well as support group to assist the veteran who wishes to stop smoking cigarettes.

Addictions Treatment Program (ATP) 1st Floor:

The program comprises: Intensive Treatment (5 hrs /day, 4 d/wk), Education Treatment (2 hrs /day, 3 d/wk), Supportive Group Therapy / Aftercare / DDX Groups. Serves the veteran in the general adult population with chemical dependency & other psychiatric diagnoses. Intensive treatment program provides intense structured 5-week day treatment. Offers education as well as an introduction into the 12-step support program; Serves as a bridge to those vets seeking residential or long-term treatment. Intensive education provides an introduction into recovery through education seminars and skills workshops. May provide sufficient hours to meet legal requirements. Outpatient support counseling provides weekly aftercare groups and individual counseling as needed.

Mental Health Intensive Case Management (MHICM)/ Case Management Program/ 4N

Outpatient community based program for the severely mentally ill veteran. It consists of two levels of treatment. Mental Health Intensive Case Management (MHICM) and High Risk Case Management (HRCM). Specific criteria must be met for admission to these programs.

Psychosocial Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (PRRTP) / 2 North

Provides an interdisciplinary therapeutic residence for the psychiatric or dual diagnosed veteran. This is an independent living environment that provides education and support for those patients in early recovery phase.

Multidisciplinary team that provides medication management, individual and group therapy by appointment.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Clinic (PCT) / 3 North

Provides diagnostic testing, individual and group treatment for patients with PTSD.

Addresses the medical and health education needs of the veteran receiving mental health services.

Persian Gulf Intake Clinic

For the veteran that has served in the Persian Gulf, Afghanistan or Iraq War and requires psychiatric treatment related to this experience. A thorough assessment and follow up treatment is provided.

Psychiatric Consultation / 1st Floor

Provides psychiatric and substance abuse consultation on inpatients Medicine, Surgery, Neurology, Spinal Cord, Rehabilitation Medicine, Blind Center, Residential Care Facility and Extended Care Center. Provides education of staff, patients, house officers, and medical students regarding psychiatric and substance abuse disorders. Provides emergency evaluation and treatment recommendations in crisis situations involving patients, staff or visitors. Provides evaluation and treatment recommendation for inpatients at Hines VA Hospital who exhibit violent, disruptive or suicidal behavior (excluding mental health service.) Provides support to staff in dealing with patients exhibiting these types of behaviors.

Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) / 4 North

The HCHV program provides outreach to veterans who are not currently patients at VA Hospitals with psychiatric and substance abuse problems. HCHV provides linkage with services such as VA clinical programs and supported housing arrangements in transitional or permanent settings. The HCHV program provides case management services which focus on
establishing clinical stability, a reliable source of income and stable housing.

Veterans Industries (CWT) / 5th Floor

A vocational rehabilitation program that promotes the training and reintegration of the disabled veteran into the employment community. Vocational assessment, job training and monetary benefits are some of the services offered.

Acute In-Patient Program / 2 South

Provides hospitalization for the adult veteran with psychiatric and / or chemical dependency related diagnoses. Patients range in age from 20 years to 99 years of age. Nursing care is provided 24/7.  This program primarily treats the following conditions/diagnoses: depression, bi-polar disorder, schizophrenia, alcohol dependence, opiate dependence, benzodiazepine dependence. The primary goal is stabilization of acute psychiatric crises, medical detoxification from alcohol and drugs, and engagement in rehabilitative treatment for psychiatry and substance abuse. Patients must be medically stable upon admission to 2 South.
