Outcomes
Outcome #1
The overall goal for Blind Rehabilitation Service is to make training
available within 120 days for an approved application. Currently, the continuous
increase in the number of applications received make this high priority for the
service.
Current average waiting times for regular blind rehabilitation program is 65
weeks and for CATs is 31 weeks. In order to address the increased need for Blind
Rehabilitation training, a nationwide initiative has been implemented to reduce
the waiting times for services. This initiative authorizes VIST coordinators to
refer applications to other Blind Rehabilitation Centers or if available to
contract for services in the veteran’s local area. This has resulted in a
decrease in waiting time for CATs from 50 weeks during FY05.
Outcome #2
The CBRC program strives to maintain very high overall levels of veteran
satisfaction. Each veteran is provided an exit interview and asked the same 10
questions that focus on the following: individualization of the program,
appropriateness of length of stay, and presentation of subject matter as it
relates to each veteran’s needs and goals.
The response rate is well in the 90th percentile for all 10 questions.
